It's been coming on awhile now, but this is truly the thing about my job that I love: bike advocacy.
At our company party a couple weeks ago my former manager asked me what I would really like to do with my position in the company, and I told her, "Bike advocacy, creating a community for cyclists and getting the word and the resources out there."
I'm getting the chance to not just write about this on my own blog, but on the Bike and Park Blog as well. On long winter days like these it is comforting to know that I can spend my time fleshing out a unique role in this city's cycle community. I feel that the least I can do toward my members, is to be as educated and as aware as they are to the city's changing infrastructure and cycling needs. It helps me to create a better community for commuter cyclists, and it helps me become a better advocate.
I'm only a little apprehensive that my professional and personal life are blending together. These are things I normally think of as separate. Yet, this is who I am, this is what I do. I bike. I bike when I'm happy or sad, having a good day or not, if the weather is beautiful or terrible. I bike when other's tell me not to. I bike when motorist are assholes. I bike with my friends and family. If this is who I am, then this is who I should be.
